Hahaha I worked on that CD cover!! I’m so excited that it’s finally out (actually it’s been out for a while now, this is just the first time I’m seeing it on Tumblr). It’s so cool to take a small part in something I truly enjoy.

Banjo-player Noam Pikelny, better known for his work in the Punch Brothers, has recently come out with his own album, called Beat the Devil and Carry a Rail (Compass Records, 2011), which features guest performers such as Aoife O’Donovan, Steve Martin, and Chris Thile.

Most of the pieces are Noam Pikelny’s own compositions, with a couple of exceptions including one Tom Waits and one which Steve Martin contributes to. This track, The Broken Drought, is a more like a ballad and works very well for banjo.

Our folk/bluegrass section is growing, and this album is one that should certainly be checked out!

mwahahah I made that… the typeface, not the poster. Thanks for featuring Junction!
I’m always surprised when people use this font on the web, and it actually looks good! The one on Kyle Jone’s website was one of my first surprises. Micah and I was looking at the site and I was like, “you know… that font looks a lot like Junction, but better, it’s so legible at such a small size.” And Micah was like, “ummm Caroline… it is Junction!” Oh the magic of view source.
I have yet to use this typeface for something. I really should.

Junction by by Caroline Hadilaksono
Inspired by my favorite humanist sans serif typefaces, such as Meta, Myriad, and Scala, Junction is where the best qualities of serif and sans serif typefaces come together. It has the hand drawn and human qualities of a serif, and still retains the clarity and efficiencies of a sans serif typeface. It combines the best of both worlds.

Lettering Contest!

Romina told me about this Design Your Own Alphabet Contest from Design Sponge a week ago, and I told her that I was gonna give it a shot. I had a whole week to work on it, so of course I didn’t start until the night before it was due. But it came out pretty decent, especially after I start using the letters for the type spec poster.

I’ve been doing a lot of stippling for some reason lately, maybe it’s just a good way to get out aggression, I don’t know. But That’s what my idea of the alphabet is: stippled script letters. It’s called Salt & Pepper.

This isn’t the screenshot that I sent to the contest, cause I ran out of time last night. I just made this type spec this morning for fun. Oh, well, I’m not too gung-ho about winning the money prize anyways.

Here are some detailed screenshots of all the stippling!
